The Hail Mary as a Way to Jesus
The Hail Mary can be prayed as a meditation where we become Mary. Mary points the way to Jesus, so when we pray to Mary, we are actually seeking our Redeemer. Therefore, this is a Christ-centred prayer. Mary was always close to Jesus and, by following the blueprint in the Hail Mary, we can also be close to Him. As we know, the Hail Mary is made up of three Gospel passages: the Annunciation, the Visitation, and the Nativity, followed by an intercessory petition.
In the Annunciation, we accept the spiritual invitation to carry Jesus; in the Visitation, we spiritually nurture Him; in the Nativity, we are holy and deliver Jesus to others. We want to be just like Mary, spiritually.
We’ll start:
Hail Mary
Full of grace, the Lord is with thee
(The Annunciation, Luke 1:28).
Hello Mary, I also say yes to the invitation of our Lord to carry Jesus. I long to be full of grace, just like you, and in the presence of our Lord every waking minute of my life.
Mary is a pure vessel, a kalal. She carries within her the Heart of Jesus.
I want to be blessed, just like you, and I also want to nurture Jesus in my heart, in my spiritual womb.
Holy Mary, Mother of God
(The Nativity, Luke 1:43).
Mary is pure, clean, holy; chosen by God to deliver our Redeemer to the world.
I would love to be holy like you, and to be Jesus’s spiritual mother by making Christ real in other people’s hearts and minds.
Pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.
Please, Mary, pray for me now and in the hour of my death, that I can achieve these spiritual objectives. I acknowledge my fallen state, but you show the way to my Saviour. By wishing to be like you, I can reach Jesus. I can be redeemed. Amen.
